This sculptural work consists of five wall pieces, created as a personal response to a question I have been frequently asked since moving to Berlin: “Where are you from?”

It is often the first thing people ask, before even learning my name. After living in London for a decade, I sometimes reply, “London,” only to be met with. And very often, it follows with “But where are you really from?”. Once I answer that, often the conversation just ends there.

These recurring interactions make me question my sense of belonging, and the intentions behind such questions.

Each piece in this installation is shaped by the different ways I might answer. It maps a personal, non-linear narrative, because identity is rarely defined by a single place. This work invites viewers to rethink how we connect, and to transform a habitual question into a deeper conversation.
