ABOUT

ROXY LEE YY

My artistic practice revolves around themes of personal movements and continuous self-discovery in big cities.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, an international city with a British colonial history and substantial Chinese heritage, I started to engage with the world from multiple cultural positions at an early age. I moved to London in 2013, and then Berlin in 2022.

Moving from city to city is like an escape from some conformity in search of my own identity. One sees things clearer from a distance.

In my recent work, The Stages of Finding, I created a series of representational sculptures that respond to my latest relocation journey. The work expresses my emotional responses to the experience with myself and my new surroundings. I believe in art as a form of self-expression and for gaining clarity of mind through the process of making.
