Artefact, 2023

This experimental ceramic sculpture presents a personal and place-based narrative through the ancient technique of pit firing. Organic materials — used tea leaves from my daily ritual, wildflowers, and local soil from the forest of Brandenburg — intertwine with rigid metal wires and industrial chemicals given on site. These contrasting materials fuse in fire and smoke, leaving behind unpredictable marks on the sculpture that reveal and reflect the different layers of living in the city.

The soft, light imprints of natural elements stand in opposition to the sharp, deep marks of wire and chemical residue, symbolising the impact on one self that occurs in various situations. Through this process, the sculpture becomes a quiet excavation of lived experiences and transformation within the eniornment.
