Composition 05 and 06, 2026
During my residency at the Rothko Museum in Latvia, I developed the initial prototype for Composition 05, inspired by the surroundings. Back in Berlin, the photographs of abandoned buildings I took in the area stayed with me: the paint on the walls – once brightly coloured – was now cracking, peeling, and fading. Rather than mere decay, these crumbling walls serve as physical evidence of past human presence and of the space’s original purpose.

Compositions 05 and 06 are built and painted from multiple boxes, joined at varying depths to form a unified, standalone sculpture. Neither piece settles into one view. The forms don’t sit still; they interact. Edges move, boxes shift, elements hide and reveal themselves as the viewer moves around the piece.
These works mark a continuation of ‘Breath of Life’ – a broader study that began with Composition 01. It explores how space, colour, and form alter energy and perception. The textured surface conveys a sense of passing time.
